“The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.”

Patrick Henry, 1788 Virginia Constitutional Convention.

The Rhode Island Accountability Project is a non-partisan effort to restore accountability and transparency in local government and law enforcement utilizing the R.I. General Laws § 38-2-1 commonly known as the Access to Public Records Act or APRA. This site is dedicated to helping the residents of Rhode Island get a glimpse into how their state, cities, and towns handle complaints and investigations.  Our ultimate goal is to see this page grow into an internal affairs report database for every city and town in our state, but this will require help from interested volunteers like you; we can’t do it alone. Our site will help you file a proper APRA request easily and you can help us build the database for your city or town. It’s easy and depending on how much information you request, usually free! If you have any questions about this process please contact us on this page and we will help you. Remember you alone are ultimately responsible for holding your public servants accountable!

“A body of men holding themselves accountable to nobody ought not to be trusted by anybody.”

-Thomas Paine
